While in prayer God described the Basque Country to us as a “land flowing with milk and honey.” Being amongst this people has opened up our eyes to the riches of their geography, history, and people, their great houses of stone, folklore, language, strength, ideals, generosity, and organization. We also are made to understand the whispers of God, the desire to lift up this people and send them as missionaries to the nations; we understand that they are the reason God has brought us here from different nations to make known the plans for blessing that God has for the Basque people, and that they would know this in their hearts and embrace their calling.
In the search for understanding our mission in the midst of this culture we went one day to Guernica, the political and spiritual center of the Basque people. In the middle of its museums, history, and paintings – for example, Gernica by Pablo Picasso, or the stained glass that is observed at the top of this page – we received understanding of their beliefs, pain, attitudes, actions, and needs: "Bakea behar dugu!" ("We need peace!"). Invite you to walk the path we have trod over the years we have been in northern Spain. You will find information about its origins (as well as the history of YWAM), our vision, Basque culture, statistics about the Church, our staff, strategy, training, seminars, our summer missions program, the support teams that come help evangelize, intercede, and bless the church, current events, projects, and hopefully much more. Welcome! |
